Who We Are

Based at Manton Sports & Entertainment on Retford Road, the academy provides structured darts sessions for young people aged 7–17, welcoming complete beginners through to more experienced players. Our aim is simple: to give every young person the opportunity to enjoy darts, improve their skills, and build confidence both on and off the oche.

Founded by Jason McGlone, Worksop Junior Darts Academy was set up in response to growing interest in junior darts locally and a lack of structured pathways for young players. Since launch, the academy has grown quickly and now supports a large and diverse group of juniors from across the region.

    Jason McGlone

    Meet Our Head Coach

    Jason McGlone

Jason McGlone – Founder, Worksop Junior Darts Academy

Jason McGlone is the founder and driving force behind Worksop Junior Darts Academy, combining a lifelong passion for darts with a strong commitment to community development and youth opportunity.

A well-respected figure within the local darts scene, Jason has spent many years playing, organising, and supporting the game at grassroots level. Through this experience, he recognised a clear gap in structured coaching and development pathways specifically designed for young players — a gap that led to the creation of the academy.

Jason established Worksop Junior Darts Academy with a clear and purposeful vision:

    • To provide a safe, supportive environment where young people can learn and enjoy darts
    • To develop confidence, discipline, and sportsmanship alongside playing ability
    • To create clear progression routes from junior participation into competitive and adult leagues

Beyond the oche, Jason is deeply committed to making a positive impact within the community. He works closely with organisations such as From the Heart Charity and other local partners to ensure that financial barriers never prevent a young person from accessing opportunities in sport. This inclusive, community-first ethos is central to everything the academy represents.

Jason remains hands-on in all aspects of the academy, regularly attending sessions, supporting players, engaging with parents, and guiding each individual’s development. His approach goes far beyond performance, focusing on building confidence, respect, and life skills that benefit young people both on and off the board.

Under his leadership, Worksop Junior Darts Academy has grown rapidly and continues to establish itself as a leading hub for junior darts development in the region.

“Darts is the hook — confidence, character, and community are the real win.”

    Who We Are

    More Information

Our weekly coaching sessions focus on:

    Throwing technique and consistency

    Scoring and finishing

    Match play and competition mindset

    Sportsmanship, etiquette, and confidence

Sessions are delivered in a supportive, encouraging atmosphere, with emphasis on enjoyment, respect, and personal development — not just results.

Beyond darts, we are proud of our community values. Working alongside From the Heart Charity and local supporters, we help ensure that financial barriers don’t prevent children from taking part, providing access to darts equipment and opportunities for all.

We actively encourage progression, whether that’s moving into junior competitions, development tours, or preparing players for transition into adult darts when the time is right.

At Worksop Junior Darts Academy, we don’t just develop players —
we build confidence, character, and community through darts ????

The academy was initially backed by Worksop boot room who paid for Jason & Stephen to travel to Bristol to complete the JDC accreditation plus a £500 grant from local Bassetlaw group Focus On Young People In Bassetlaw and a £650 grant from Bassetlaw councillors and is supported by the Worksop Charity ‘From the Heart’.
This grant helped us set up with dartboards and help towards a player shirt for each academy player, over 135 shirts up to date.

    Flight School

is a professional darts coaching and player development programme based in Worksop, coaching players aged 7 and above. Led by PDPA Level 1 qualified coaches Jason and Jaymie McGlone, with Jason progressing onto his PDPA Level 2 qualification in June 2026, Flight School provides structured coaching designed to improve technique, confidence, mindset, consistency, and competitive performance. Through expert coaching, matchplay experience, Power League events, player analysis, and development pathways, Flight School supports players of all abilities — from beginners taking their first steps in darts through to competitive players looking to progress into junior, county, and adult darts.

    • Professional Coaching

Train with PDPA Level 1 qualified coaches Jason and Jaymie McGlone in a structured coaching environment designed to develop every aspect of your game. Sessions focus on throwing technique, rhythm, consistency, mental approach, matchplay, scoring, finishing, and player development. With Jason beginning his PDPA Level 2 coaching qualification in June 2026, players at Flight School benefit from modern coaching methods, detailed feedback, and a professional pathway designed to help players of all abilities reach their full potential.

    • Progression Tracking

we believe development should be measurable. Players regularly track their progress through averages, scoring routines, finishing practice, matchplay results, JDC routines, and personalised coaching feedback. This allows players and parents to clearly see improvement over time while helping identify strengths, areas for development, and goals for future progression.

    • Competition Ready

Flight School prepares players for real competitive darts through structured matchplay, round robin events, Power Leagues, knockout tournaments, and pressure-based practice sessions. Players learn how to handle scoring situations, finishing under pressure, board management, mental resilience, and match temperament — helping build the confidence and experience needed to compete in junior, county, and adult darts environments.

    • Confidence Building

we focus on developing confident players both on and off the oche. Through positive coaching, structured routines, matchplay experience, and personal development, players learn to trust their throw, handle pressure, recover from mistakes, and believe in their own ability. Our supportive environment helps players grow in confidence while enjoying the game and reaching their full potential.
